Chi Zhang

Chi is a PhD student who is currently conducting dissertation research on the communication practices of first-generation Chinese Americans and their engagement with co-ethnic and outgroup political issues. Her research interests more generally deal with changing formations of citizenship, community, and civic participation under the conditions of immigration and population diversity. After graduating from Middlebury College in 2009, she taught self-designed liberal arts seminars at a public high school in southern China, where she introduced her students and herself to the new media discourse in its early days of development. She is also a proud graduate of the MSc/MA Global Media and Communications program jointly offered by the London School of Economics and University of Southern California. Having found an intellectual home at the Metamorphosis Project, she is committed to modes of research and engagement that encourage alternative imaginations and social change.
