The Metamorphosis Project was recently awarded a California Story Fund Grant from the California Council for the Humanities for a public multimedia project called Making Public Spheres in South Los Angeles: Storytelling Community Organizer Struggles to Create Democratic Spaces in South Los Angeles. The project will be a collaborative storytelling project between the community-based research oriented USC Metamorphosis Project, the community news website Intersections South LA, and 15 community organizers from key community-building organizations in South LA. Together, the collaboration will present an alternative narrative of South LA that portray stories from community organizers themselves who are on-the-ground and creating spaces for democracy that attempt to work against the notion that the public sphere is deteriorating in inner-city urban neighborhoods such as South LA.
